Tonight, I am going to see this film, Reefer Madness, with live commentary from former Mystery Science Theater 3000 members. Thank you, Fathom Events, for making this possible. Also, thank you to my dear friend for taking me.

Alone With Everybody
the flesh covers the bone
and they put a mind
in there and
sometimes a soul,
and the women break
vases against the walls
and the men drink too
much
and nobody finds the
one
but keep
looking
crawling in and out
of beds.
flesh covers
the bone and the
flesh searches
for more than
flesh.
there's no chance
at all:
we are all trapped
by a singular
fate.
nobody ever finds
the one.
the city dumps fill
the junkyards fill
the madhouses fill
the hospitals fill
the graveyards fill
nothing else
fills.
Happy Birthday, Charles Bukowski. You rock.

So, last night I sweated away a good half hour or so dancing to the wonderful music of Fever Ray. If you haven't let this fantastic being into your life, you are surely missing out. Try the videos: If I Had a Heart, When I Grow Up, Seven, or Keep the Streets Empty For Me. If they don't convince you, you're hopeless.

Four years ago today, this band (Some by Sea) performed its very last concert. The video above is from one of their record store performances earlier that year, promoting their then fresh-off-the-presses release, "on fire! (igloo)". This particular song is from their earlier full-length. It's my favorite song of theirs (not least because it is the very first one of theirs that I heard), and the only time I saw it live was at that final show on August 11th, 2006.

We just got our house re-painted.
It's this bright orange/yellow. Properly, it is called "India Spice". I love the way it jumps out in the neighborhood, among all the grey and blue and white and generally just-plain-drab houses.
One neighbor's twenty-feet-away remark was "oh my God! What did they do?"
Answer: We decided to just be who we are. We are bright, loud, colorful people. And we ain't changing or moving away any time soon.

Extra Lens = John Darnielle of the Mountain Goats (probably my most favorite band) and some other guy.
I'm just excited about another medium through which to enjoy the infinite awesomeness that is John Darnielle, honestly. Check out the news.

Breathe Owl Breathe - Own Stunts from Magic Central on Vimeo.
While I'm working through whether or not I find his repeated references to the hiding capabilities of his mustache to be necessary and/or aesthetically pleasing, I still like this video and song enough to share it with you -- whoever you are.

The first song that came into my head this morning was "This Song" by Grizzly Bear, which I find a little relatable right now. In my efforts to find a cooler video with which to share it, I found this little piece of gold:
Needless to say, I wish I was that guy sitting next to Ed Droste.

Hugh Laurie is making a blues album.
Recently made an addict of the show House (or at least the Saturday night marathons on Bravo), I am really actually excessively psyched about this. I hope it's as good as my ears are imagining it will be.

Free at last! Well, some more music, anyway.
Snatch up these two tracks by Hard Mix. You'll be glad you did.
All this downloading, I feel like I'm actually catching up with the times.

I woke up this morning inconsolably thirsty. Or is it inconsolable and thirsty? Anyway, I got up, chugged some pink lemonade, sat back in bed, and got all emotional.
Not that I need to burden you with my problems.

Perfume Genius, "Learning"
No one will answer your prayers until you take off that dress
No one will hear all your crying until you take your last breath
But you will learn to mind me
And you will learn to survive me
Your father before you and your sister too,
your husband, blah blah blah blah, you
PS: That album art is so early Matthew Barney, is it not?

Blackbird Blackbird So Sorry Girl from Imaginary Animal on Vimeo.
This song keeps popping into my head for many reasons. It's so good! And it appears on the free Happy High EP. Go get that shtuff!

Why haven't you downloaded the free Humble Cub album yet?
Well, because you're an idiot.
GO GET IT!
Fun Fact: I was at a Scrabble party with the lead singer (Allan), we were partners (by hat-draw), I realized I had his solo album, "so we already know each other!", laughs, we won. Go team.
